OUR SOURCES
At the Apothekary, we acquire all of our herbs from the safest and most reliable sources around the world. This is why we pride ourselves in having the best tasting and most effective herbal tea blends in the market. Our sources include:
THERAPEUTIC GRADE: Implies that the herbs went through rigorous testing, 3rd party testing, and that great care went into the herbs growing and processing and is safe for therapeutic use.
WILD CRAFTED: Also known as foraging, it is the practice of harvesting plants from their natural, or ‘wild’ habitat, primarily for food or medicinal purposes. It applies to uncultivated plants wherever they may be found, and is not necessarily limited to wilderness areas.
ORGANIC: Produced without using most conventional pesticides; fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge; bioengineering; or ionizing radiation.” Food produced in this way can be labeled with the USDA symbol and sold as ‘organic’
BIODYNAMIC: Biodynamic farming and gardening is a way for land cultivators to develop a symbiotic relationship with their soil. Biodynamic practices take the life force and natural elements of the land into consideration when cultivating crops, establishing a more biologically harmonious environment and more efficient farm management.
FAIR TRADE: A system of certification that aims to ensure a set of standards are met in the production and supply of a product or ingredient. For farmers and workers, Fairtrade means workers’ rights, safer working conditions and fairer pay.
HOW TO BREW
Making herbal tea may seem fairly straight-forward but to extract the greatest medicinal value from herbs we need to do more than just dunk a teabag in hot water. In the spirit of age-old medicine making traditions, here are some nuanced preparation techniques for your special herbal brew.
HERBAL ACTIONS
The magic of herbs can be found in their actions. Herbal actions describe how a particular herb will behave in your body. Any particular herb may have several actions and should not be relegated to just one. At the Apothekary, we use herbs with various actions in all of our blends.
